7 Steps to get a new wall

Sometimes we don't plan any renovations. But unexpected water damage could be a reason to call a contractor to fix the drywall and get the new wall. Or you want to build a new wall to separate one large room into two smaller.

In any case we need to follow steps to get the new wall done properly and without any further problems. Sometimes we can skip any step if we don't need them at that project but the order is pretty much the same.

Step 1. Framing. We need it when we build the new wall. Studs could be steel or wood. Steel studs live longer but for unique projects with a lot of creativity in design the wood ones work better. Also wood studs cost cheaper but steel ones will never rot.

Step 2. Electrical and Plumbing. Usually electrical wires are needed in mostly projects. But plumbing pipes are optional and you need them when building a new bathroom wall.

Step 3. Insulation. That's the step when you choose the proper insulation. Do you need your space to be soundproofed? Or do you need something simple? Or it's a room inside a house and needs no insulation at all? Discuss with your contactor for a better and budget friendly option.

Step 4. Drywall. Next step is to hang a drywall. Don't forget to check in advance what type is better for your project and why.

Step 5. Taping and Mudding. To cover all gaps between drywall sheets contractors use tapes and mud to finish the drywall project. In that case you have to give everything to dry out properly. After that the contractor has to sand the dry compound to get rid of any bumps. Then spread another layer of compound. And let it dry thoroughly. And sand it again to get a smooth surface.

Step 6. Primer. Today you could choose a paint that includes a primer. But actually you never go wrong with primer. It covers some stains and gives a better base for the future color. Especially to light tones.

Step 7. Paint. You finally could paint your new wall with a preferable color. And clean everything around to get your life without renos back.
